An Inspector Calls Book Review | J. B. Priestley AQA GCSE English

An Inspector Calls is a short play written by J. B. Priestly. It is an integral part of the AQA GCSE English exam. The short play is quite interesting, it is about a young woman who died in an Infirmary from swallowing a lot of strong disinfectant; this burnt her inside out. A family dinner party is held but a police inspector who is investigating the suicide of a young working class woman turns up, linking them to her death... The short play was rather exciting and it is structured in a way that keeps the reader on their toes. Click here to buy the GCSE text guide Click here to buy the play

Tins Book Review | Alex Shearer

Image
Buy the Tins book here Fergal is a self-confessed nerd with an eccentric hobby: tin collecting. He likes the lucky dip aspect of buying tins that have their labels missing - after all, you never know what might be inside. It's Fergal's idea of living dangerously. That is, until the day he innocently opens up a tin to find . . . a bloodied human finger. Everyone thinks it's a joke. But not Fergal - and when his next tin discovery is a note with the word 'Help' scribbled on it, he feels compelled to track down the factory responsible for these mysterious and macabre products. Fergal might be hungry to play detective, but has he opened a can of worms . . . ? With nobody to share his hobby with, Fergal meets a girl at the supermarket attempting to go for the same tin: Charlotte. Charlotte is also interested in tin collecting. This book will have readers squirming on the edge of their seats. Funny, frightening and totally gross - Alex Shearer taps into the repulsive-

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Book Review | GCSE AQA Classics | Pauline Francis

I recently read the 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' book which was retold by Pauline Francis. This book is an integral part of the AQA English GCSE so I thought I'd borrow it from my local library and check it out. The story is very short and I managed to finish it in one day. I quite enjoyed reading the book. Having watched the film prior to reading the book, I sort of knew what to expect but the book and the film were actually quite different. The book was a nice easy read and seems to be aimed at younger audiences. The book is a classic. I liked the small illustrations in the book too. The Fault in our Stars Book Review | John Green

I recently finished reading 'The Fault in our Stars' and I have to say that John Green has written an amazing book. This book is very interesting and is now my second favourite book. The main characters in the book are Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters. They meet at a cancer support group and their love story is incredibly heart-warming. However, the story takes a dark turn which shows the more realistic side of life, rather than the typical fairy tale ending. The story is truly gripping and keeps you interested and you build such a strong relationship with the characters that it can be truly devastating when you discover the truth of cancer and what it can really do to a person. Not only do you feel sympathetic towards Hazel, you also feel sympathetic towards her parents and I highly recommend that you check out this book if you haven't already read it. Book Review: Arsenic for Tea | Robert Stevens

Image
This review may contain spoilers... I recently went to my local library and picked up Arsenic for Tea. If you are interested in reading that blog post. you can find it here: Trip to my local library. Here is my review: Front cover of 'Arsenic for Tea'. I finished reading Arsenic for Tea by Robert Stevens. Arsenic for Tea is a fairly new release, it was published in 2015 so there is a fair chance that you may not have read it yet. I found Stevens' writing style to be quite interesting as it wasn't one that I commonly came across. The character's various personalities helped to keep me engaged in the book and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the book to family and friends. You may think that the book is more suited to a younger audience, judging by the title, but I believe that this book would engage readers of a wide age range, including some adults! I enjoyed the detective theme in the book and it was interesting to try to figure out who had put the ars
